The skies cleared just in time for this incredible wedding for Carolyn and Jacob. With the refreshing smell of spring rains in the air, 200 guests journeyed to the heart of the Sonoma Valley, CA, to celebrate at the historic Annadel Estate Winery. The stone winery ruins, built in 1886, were the backdrop of this intimate ceremony with touches of Jewish and Buddhist rituals.
The bride and groom both wanted to celebrate their love within their values for health and the environment. Carolyn is an OBGYN dedicated to women’s health and improving lives of the prison population, while Jacob is an MBA on a mission working to support NGO’s nationally with better business practices.
To align this wedding with deep green values, the vendors had a combined goal of generating no more than one bag of garbage. Our incredible floral designer, Waterlily Pond, focused on reusable plant material like air plants, succulents and dry branches. Flowers were sourced locally, and reclaimed wood from the Army Corps of Engineers was repurposed for the escort card display and custom table numbers.
The wedding was catered by certified green caterer, LRE Catering, who incorporated fresh local produce, with all of the food prepared from scratch by the LRE Catering chefs (eliminating packaging from pre-packaged foods), Filtered drinking water was brought in large reusable glass bottles, eliminating individual plastic water bottles.
We used local wines from the venue, grown and bottled on the site of the wedding– eliminating shipping of the wine. The beer served at the bar was brewed locally and brought in half kegs – allowing for reuse, and limiting the recycling needs of glass bottles. Our kitchen was outfitted with many clearly labeled recycling and composting bins.
LED lighting technology was incorporated by Impact Lighting, for low energy lighting throughout the event. Our party rental companies got on board as well by limiting the amount of packaging materials and helping to make this green wedding a success!
